Here’s a simple Thanksgiving activity/tradition that does not take any preparation and it makes everyone feel good about themselves.
Sharing Gratitude

Each person turns to the person to their left (or right) and says one thing they do (or represent) for which they are thankful.
For example let’s say my daughter was sitting next to me. I would turn to her and say out loud, that I am thankful for the sense of humor she has, and how many times I smile and laugh because of her. (Contributed by Mia)
Here’s a little Thanksgiving number that is also easy to plan:

This is one of my favorites and I am going to use this one of these days…. It is an old tradition that is delightful and inspiring. As you read it picture yourself around a table at the first thanksgiving. What would you be thankful for back then?
THE TALKING FORK
This old storytelling game has been around forever, but it just might do the trick when the kids have cleaned their plates and are ready to fly out the door again. Just ask: “Did everybody use a fork?” They’ll all nod.
“Good. If you just used a fork, then you owe the cook a magic memory. I will now unveil The Talking Fork.” Puzzled looks will follow. “I cooked this meal. And before we all leave, I want to hear some good, fun, magic family memories. Here’s the Talking Fork. I’ll go first.” Then pick up a fork around which you’ve tied a ribbon — a nice, big serving fork is good for dramatic effect — and begin. Source: Family Education.com
HAPPY PUMPKINS

Another fun activity for family members of all ages is the Happy Pumpkins. You will need one miniature pumpkin per guest and several “magic markers.”
Ask each guest to decorate their pumpkin to reflect their mood, personality or creative nature. Use these as a centerpiece for the desert table.
And here’s another Thanksgiving activity that is sure to bring a smile to your guests faces:

Yesterday I posted a tradition that one of our readers shared with me. Here’s another one:

Gifts of Thanks
At the last Thanksgiving that I hosted, I did some similar “activities”. The table was decorated of course with Thanksgiving confetti, “fabric leaves” from the art store, chocolate shaped candy, other Thanksgiving items, and at each place setting, I had a small gift bag that had each recipients name on it(found these at a card store), inside each were a few small trinkets, Lindt chocolate wrapped in matching fall colors, and shredded tissue paper.
I had also searched the internet about Thanksgiving and thoughtful sayings/holiday significance and I printed one for each person and placed that along side their personalized gift bag. We each took turns reading our quote or saying, and adding any personal thoughts. I had also done a search on Thanksgiving games and created a Thanksgiving Trivia game – we couldn’t eat until we played. It was so much fun and everyone was involved in the process. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Thanksgiving, a time of family, laughter, gratitude and joy.
Thanksgiving is and always has been my favorite holiday. It is so unpretentious. No worrying about if you got the right gift for Uncle Mike or Aunt Martha. You don’t have to spend hours or even days decorating the house. Everything on thanksgiving revolves around sharing and caring and the dinner table.
In fact, I spend more time planning the activities for Thanksgiving than I do for most vacations.
Every year when I host Thanksgiving dinner I like to incorporate some sort of “activity” into the meal. Over the next few days I am going to share a few of the activities we have done in our home and also some that my customers and readers have shared with me. I will also link to some of the ones we have posted over the years. If you have a special activity or tradition you’d like to share, feel free to leave it in the comments section below. I’d love to hear from you.
If you prefer, you can send your idea to heidi@edenflorist.com with “Thanksgiving Traditions” in the subject line.
Here’s one that was sent to me by Kimberly Glenn:
The Thanksgiving Tree

A few years ago, I sent out a note a few weeks before Thanksgiving asking that each person send me a list of things they appreciated about other members of our extended family. (We have 50-75 people for Thanksgiving!) I printed them on construction paper leaves and made a Thanksgiving tree that was displayed at the front of our large room. It was such a blessing to read all of the nice things about others as well as myself. I made sure that every member of the family had at least 3-4 leaves describing why people were thankful for them. There were many laughs and tears as we remembered why we love each other so much!
And here’s a couple of Thanksgiving posts from last year that you may find of interest:

In a study done by the Society of American Florists they found that “Flowers Lead Toward “Better Bottom Line”

“Naturalizing the workplace can lead to more productive workers and a better bottom line,” Joanna Poncavage tells readers, touting SAF’s Impact of Flowers & Plants on Workplace Productivity Study.
“Recent scientific research at Texas A&M University found that ideas, creative performance and problem solving improve substantially in places with flowers and plants,” Poncavage says.
In 2003, SAF partnered with an internationally recognized research team at Texas A&M University to learn how flowers and plants in the workplace impact productivity and problem solving.
“The Texas A&M research is a great sales tool to help convince businesses why they need flowers,” says Jennifer Sparks, SAF’s vice president of marketing. “Commercial accounts represent a profitable market for florists, and while they do require some upfront efforts, the long-term rewards are significant.”
In fact, I have had several customers tell me that flowers do the trick!
We have an attorney who sends flowers to clients to thank them for their business and for their referrals. They always call and thank her and oftentimes will end up being our customers.
One customer was trying to get an appointment with the Human Resource Director of a Big Company and he could not get past the gatekeeper. He called for about the 5th time and was again brushed off. While speaking with the assistant he noticed she was sneezing a little and asked if she was okay. She told him she was just getting over a cold. He called my shop and ordered a “chicken soup” arrangement and had it delivered that day. Needless to say, he got the appointment and subsequently the business.
FLOWERS WORK!
Here’s what one satisfied customer has to say about Eden Florist work:
“On behalf of the faculty and staff of Northwest Christian Academy I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU! The arrangement is beautiful. Blossom and I will have the vase for a long time. You will be seeing and hearing form us in the near future.” Marcia Davis
So if you were wondering whether or not flowers would help you close the sale… this study should give you at least one more reason to SEND FLOWERS.

Scorpio: Oct. 24 – Nov. 22

Scorpio, known as the most intense of the zodiac signs, are passionate, perceptive and focused, and at times can be possessive and even display a jealous side. Scorpios have strong convictions which at times can be annoying because they don’t easily compromise. They are sensitve, and when they believe in something or become inspired will go to the ends of the earth to fulfill their passions.
According to astrology, Scorpios have a higher probability of being geniuses than persons born under the other 11 signs of the zodiac.
The sensual passional Scorpio is attracted to deep, dark red flowers such as roses, Carnations, and richly colored chrysantemums. Red peopnies make Scorpio’s heart skip a beat appealling to their highly sensual nature. Tropical flowering plants such as birds of paradise, parakeet protea and anthurrium will nurture their sensitive side.
Scorpios colors are Dark red, brown, black, crimson, burgundy, maroon and their birthstone is the topaz.

Confused about whether or not to send flowers to express your sympathy?
In the article “Avoiding Confusion” Kim Stacey says “The traditional funeral ritual plays a key role in the grieving process. As tradition has given way to new forms and behaviors, still the most common funeral-related ritual, is the sending, receiving and viewing of flowers.”

In a study entitled, “The Role of Flowers and Plants in the Bereavement Process,” funded jointly by the American Floral Endowment and the Society of American Florists Information Committee, more than half of the bereaved surveyed strongly agreed that flowers were a critical component of the funeral ritual that helped them deal with their grief.
She goes on to say, “At the funeral service, flowers also help brighten a somber environment and provide a topic of conversation and a tranquil focal point.”
More important than the role of flowers in keeping conversation going, the study further demonstrated that because of their soothing qualities, sympathy flowers displayed at funerals actually had a positive impact on the emotional well-being of the bereaved.
After the funeral service, arrangements and plants act as keepsakes to brighten the home and in the case of flowering plants, can serve as a living memorial to the deceased. Not only that, caring for the plants can provide hours of pleasure and an emotional connection to the missing loved one.”
